GLP-1 Medications

FDA-Approved Options

  • Wegovy® (semaglutide)
  • Ozempic® (semaglutide)
  • Zepbound® (tirzepatide)
  • Mounjaro® (tirzepatide)
  • Saxenda® (liraglutide)

Boxed Warning: GLP-1 medications may increase the risk of thyroid C-cell tumors. Do not use if you or your family have a history of medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) or Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2).

Serious Risks May Include

  • Pancreatitis
  • Gallbladder disease
  • Severe gastrointestinal side effects
  • Kidney injury related to dehydration
  • Suicidal thoughts or behavior

Common Side Effects

  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Constipation
  • Abdominal pain

Compounded GLP-1 Options

  • In some cases, licensed providers may prescribe compounded semaglutide or tirzepatide.
  • Important Note: Compounded medications are not FDA-approved. They are prepared by state-licensed compounding pharmacies when commercially available alternatives are not suitable or accessible.
  • Safety, efficacy, and manufacturing standards are not reviewed by the FDA.

Hormone Therapy (HRT)

Hormone therapies (including estrogen, progesterone) may be prescribed for menopausal or midlife wellness support.

Important Safety Considerations

  • Increased risk of blood clots, stroke, or heart disease in some patients
  • Not suitable for patients with certain cancers (such as breast or uterine cancer)
  • Possible mood changes, acne, or hair growth with some formulations

Always discuss personal risks with your provider before starting hormone therapy.
